Does it feel like the air blowing through your ducts is not as cold as it should be? AC systems are going to become less efficient overtime due to decreased airflow, blocked registers, faulty condenser functionality, or leaky ducts. Simply put, there are a lot of things that can go wrong with a central AC system. That being said, certain components within your system are bound to experience reduced efficiency over the years, even if they are regularly serviced, simply because of their age. This means that the homeowners needs to be constantly servicing and cleaning the AC system to keep it running as efficiently as possible. Here are 3 easy cleans for your HVAC system.

Clean the Air Registers

The air registers are easy to clean. Some people frequently clean the outside of their registers while they are cleaning their floors or walls. But, this does not really solve the problem. In fact, it could push dust back into the registers where it clogs the space in between individual vents. To actually clean your registers, you need to remove them from the wall. All you need is a flathead screwdriver and some dishwasher soap to clean even the dirtiest registers. While your registers are off of the wall, you should inspect the duct and make sure there are no serious mold or rodent problems.

Clean the Furnace Blower

The furnace blower is the most important element when it comes to the airflow of your AC system. Luckily, it is also very easy to clean. The furnace blower is usually on the bottom half of the furnace cabinet. On some units it has a separate access panel, but other units just have one large panel. Remove the panel and vacuum out the blower thoroughly. This not only can increase airflow, but also it can create cleaner air in your home.

Tape Exposed Duct Seams

There should be several feet of exposed ducts throughout your home. There will be more if you have a basement or attic that these ducts run through. Adding duct tape to the seams is a quick and easy way to stop common air leaks. There are bound to be quite a few leaks throughout your system, but you might as well just tape them all as a preventative measure.

The great thing about these jobs is that you can do all of them in a single day and instantly enjoy better airflow. For more information or advice, contact air duct cleaning services.
